Job Purpose:
The Portfolio Management Director is responsible for maximizing the value and strategic performance of the company’s investment portfolio through the development and execution of asset-specific strategies, value creation plans, and exit frameworks. This role provides proactive oversight of asset health, risk exposure, capital needs, and governance effectiveness. The Director plays a critical role in consolidating business plans, analyzing portfolio company performance, and advising both the holding company’s Board and its representatives on subsidiary boards to ensure alignment with shareholder objectives. Additionally, the Director will lead capital allocation planning, assess cash calls and debt requests, and ensure all asset-level decisions support the long-term financial sustainability and strategic goals of the group.

Key Accountabilities:
Asset Strategy & Performance Optimization
- Lead the development and execution of differentiated asset strategies across the portfolio, tailored to each asset’s lifecycle stage, strategic relevance, and value potential.
- Define and oversee asset-level value creation plans, incorporating operational efficiencies, market repositioning, capital structuring, and governance strengthening.
- Establish and institutionalize performance metrics—including IRR, ROI, EBITDA, capital efficiency, and strategic alignment scores—to track asset progress against investment objectives.
- Implement a structured performance review cadence for all assets, supported by real-time dashboards, benchmarking, and financial modeling.
- Introduce a dynamic asset classification framework (e.g., core/growth, turnaround, divestment-ready) to guide capital allocation, management focus, and strategic decision-making.
- Collaborate with portfolio company leadership to translate strategic plans into measurable outcomes and intervention triggers.
- Ensure asset strategies are integrated with broader portfolio planning, capital deployment decisions, and exit timing considerations.
Portfolio & Risk Management
- Monitor investment risks, asset lifecycle performance, and compliance with investment policies.
- Conduct scenario analysis, stress testing, and financial modeling to mitigate risks and improve decision-making.
- Ensure adherence to risk management frameworks, governance policies, and regulatory requirements.
- Identify underperforming assets and develop turnaround strategies to enhance value.
Asset Performance & Value Creation
- Monitor and evaluate the performance of portfolio assets to identify underperformance, operational inefficiencies, and value creation opportunities.
- Engage actively with subsidiary boards and executive management to optimize asset utilization, enhance profitability, and drive strategic alignment.
- Ensure full compliance with legal, financial, and operational agreements governing portfolio assets, mitigating risk and ensuring governance accountability.
- Lead the review and consolidation of annual business plans and financial budgets submitted by portfolio companies, ensuring consistency and rigor.
- Ensure that portfolio company plans are aligned with the holding company's strategic direction, capital allocation priorities, and targeted exit timelines.
- Assess and validate cash call requirements; provide guidance to senior leadership on equity contributions to ensure structured, transparent, and justified capital deployment.
- Evaluate proposed debt structures and funding needs of subsidiaries; ensure alignment with group-level leverage thresholds and financial strategy.
- Collaborate with the finance and treasury functions to orchestrate efficient capital deployment, safeguard liquidity, and maintain financial sustainability across the portfolio.
Divestment & Exit Strategy Execution
- Design and implement comprehensive exit strategies for portfolio companies, ensuring alignment with the holding company’s long-term strategic objectives and financial sustainability.
- Establish divestment priorities and roadmaps based on market conditions, asset performance, and shareholder expectations.
- Lead the planning and execution of divestment processes—including valuation analysis, buyer identification, and transaction structuring—to maximize investment realization.
- Oversee the negotiation and finalization of transaction documents, including Term Sheets, Share Purchase Agreements (SPAs), and Conditions Precedent (CPs), ensuring alignment with commercial terms and governance standards.
- Engage, manage, and coordinate external consultants—including legal advisors, financial advisors, valuation experts, and transaction consultants—to support due diligence, deal structuring, and successful execution of exit transactions.
- Manage all stages of the divestment lifecycle: from preparation of deal documentation and coordination of legal and financial due diligence, to transaction execution and closure.
- Conduct in-depth market research and financial analysis to support asset sales, refinancing, or restructuring decisions.
- Oversee post-acquisition integration and alignment of new investments with the existing portfolio strategy to ensure strategic fit and value capture.
Stakeholder & Governance Management
- Serve as the strategic interface between the holding company and its portfolio companies on all matters related to performance, governance, and value realization.
- Receive and critically analyze performance reports, business updates, and board materials submitted by portfolio companies.
- Prepare and communicate the holding company's perspective, risk views, and strategic recommendations to its Board of Directors, Investment Committee, and shareholder representatives.
- Advise and support the holding company’s board representatives who sit on the boards of subsidiaries, equipping them with clear positions, proposed interventions, and forward-looking guidance to represent shareholder interests effectively.
- Provide direction and feedback to portfolio companies through these board channels, ensuring their strategic decisions and business conduct are aligned with the holding company’s long-term objectives and capital priorities.
- Collaborate closely with internal legal, finance, risk, and strategy teams to ensure robust governance and coordinated communication across all portfolio entities.
- When necessary, engage external advisors and consultants to support strategic board interventions, corporate actions, or complex decision-making
Pre-Investment Contribution
- Support the Investment function on an ad-hoc or rotational basis by contributing to the evaluation of new investment opportunities, particularly those with direct strategic linkage to the existing portfolio.
- Lead or advise on due diligence workstreams—especially operational, commercial, and governance aspects—leveraging insights from current asset performance.
- Review and validate business plans, capital expenditure assumptions, and exit strategies proposed for new deals.
- Provide early-stage input on potential post-acquisition value creation levers and risks.
- Collaborate with the Investment Director and CIO to ensure investment decisions are informed by existing portfolio learnings and capital allocation priorities.
- Where required, represent Asset Management in Investment Committee discussions or review sessions on pipeline transactions.
Other Duties
- Undertake any additional responsibilities or strategic assignments as directed by management.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in finance, Investment Management, Business Administration, or a related field.
- Master’s degree (MBA) or CFA qualification is preferred.
- Professional certifications such as CFA, CAIA, ACCA, or RICS are an advantage.
Experience
- Over 12 years of experience in asset management, portfolio management, or investment management.
- Proven track record in enhancing asset value, financial performance, and portfolio optimization.
- Experience in managing real assets, private equity, or large-scale investment portfolios.
- Strong knowledge of investment risk management, due diligence, and financial modeling.
- Expertise in developing and executing exit strategies for investment portfolios
