Job description

Job Purpose  

The Legal Associate provides comprehensive legal and administrative support to the Legal Department in managing day-to-day operations and assisting with commercial, corporate, litigation, and regulatory matters.
The role involves drafting and reviewing contracts, coordinating with external law firms, conducting legal research, and ensuring compliance with applicable laws and regulations.
The incumbent will also support the efficient coordination and organization of legal activities, ensuring timely completion of deliverables and maintaining effective communication with internal and external stakeholders.

Main Tasks & Accountabilities

Commercial & Corporate Support

  • Draft and review a wide range of commercial contracts (e.g., services, branding/marketing, leases, purchase).
  • Conduct legal research, prepare legal opinions, and support management on various legal and business matters.
  •   Identify legal and contractual risks and report them to management.
  •  Provide legal advice on commercial, contractual, and regulatory issues affecting business operations.
  • Ensure compliance with relevant laws and regulations, including consumer protection, intellectual property, and food control requirements. 

Litigation & External Legal Coordination

  • Coordinate and manage litigation cases handled by external law firms.
  • Gather and provide required evidence and documentation, liaising with internal departments.
  • Monitor case progress and advise management on risks and developments.
  • Maintain up-to-date case records, settlement files, and legal correspondence.

Regulatory Affairs

  • Monitor and analyze new laws, regulations, and decisions issued by authorities to assess their impact on the company.
  • Support or manage responses to regulatory inquiries in coordination with external counsel and internal stakeholders.
  • Represent or support the representation of the company before regulatory or governmental bodies.

Administrative & Document Management

  • Draft and format legal documents, correspondence, and reports
  • Maintain accurate records, case files, and databases to support departmental reporting and audits.
  • Organize team training sessions and maintain legal know-how materials

Legal Documentation Support

  • Understand and ensure meeting the obligations of health and safety requirements of employment legislation.
  • Ensure compliance of all H&S policies, including wearing of helmets and other personal protective equipment by the staff.

Team Building – Planning, acquisition, and mentoring

  • Effective communication within and outside the team.
  • Create a supportive environment for the team members.
  • Contribute to the team, letting others know information that may be useful or important.
  • Help to create a fun, supportive work environment.

People management and reporting responsibilities

  • Liaison with management and other line managers (as part of cross function team) for efficient running of the department.
  • Participate in management and supervisory meetings as and when required.
  • Ensure accurate and up to date, daily, weekly, monthly records as required by the management.
  • Ensure tasks are understood by the team members and performed responsibly and diligently.
  • Help others in the team if needed, Support relief staff in their duties.

Main Contacts and Working Relationships

  • Internal     All Department Heads and Line Managers.

  • External    Law firms, governmental institutions, Stakeholders, customers, agencies etc.

Person Specification  (Qualifications, Knowledge & Experience)  
Education Level –    Minimum Requirement  

  • Bachelor’s degree in law.

Professional    Qualifications

  • ICSA qualification/ Company Secretary (CS) preferred.
  • Certificate course in Corporate Law.
  • Have a valid driver’s license

Work Experience    

  • Overall experience of 3 years or more handling legal department for an FMCG firm.
  • Experience in FMCG/dairy products will be preferred
  • Strong understanding of the Middle East markets

Job Specific Skills    

  • Experience working on matters of corporate governance and with a board of directors.
  • Proven general counseling experience in business environment.
  • Overall broad legal knowledge (corporate law, litigations, labor law, etc.)
  • In-depth understanding of how legal issues affect organizations.
  • Ability to develop legal strategy and objectives.
  • Keen understanding of law of the land and international laws applicable for companies.
  • Financial awareness to understand and interpret numbers; Excellent written & verbal communication / presentation skills.
  • Team player with excellent motivational skills.

 Position Location  

To be based in Muscat Office and travelling to all depots in Oman
